Our volunteers play a fundamental role in the success and future of Aerospace Bristol.
Our vision is an aerospace museum, which inspires, entertains and informs through the understanding of, and engagement with, the stories and collections of Bristol’s aerospace industry – past, present and future. It is, of course, also be home to the last Concorde ever built and the last to fly when it returned to its birthplace in 2003.
Outreach volunteers will support the implementation and delivering of projects to diverse audiences in South Gloucestershire and Bristol. The Outreach team run a varied program of events to bring the museums experience to the wider community and we are looking to build a team of volunteers to work on different events throughout the year. Whether you are passionate about STEM, great at working with children, committed to care for the elderly or are looking to build experience and gain skills for career development, the Outreach team want to hear from you.
Examples of outreach activities include creating a micro museum at public events, engaging with dementia patients in care homes and helping children to discover gravity through play.
Tasks will include:
Interaction with the public and encouraging them to take part in activities
Leading and facilitating sessions with a wide range of different audiences
Delivering activities with families, children and young people
Supporting older people with object handling and other activities
Representing Aerospace Bristol at local, national and international events and supporting with marketing, learning activities and exhibitions outside the museum

Opportunities will be shared with the Outreach Volunteers, who will have the chance to register their interest for a particular day or event; this could be anything from a couple of hours, to a whole day running STEM activities at an international air show. There are likely to be a couple of different opportunities every month, with a wide variety of people to work with. Events will take place throughout the year at a variety of locations and may take place during the day, in evenings, and at weekends.

Understanding of and respect for different people and communities, their needs and priorities

Volunteers will receive training for the role prior to events and activities

Volunteers will be required to attend role specific training prior to commencing volunteering at the Museum
Volunteers must be prepared to undertake a Basic Disclosure check prior commencing their role
Travel expenses to Outreach events will be reimbursed in accordance with the museum’s expenses policy
