Visitor Services Volunteer

Our volunteers play a fundamental role in the success and future of Aerospace Bristol

be part of our future

Our volunteers play a fundamental role in the success and future of Aerospace Bristol.

This is a hugely exciting time to join the team to help us enhance the visitor experience, encourage repeat visits and word of mouth recommendations, which will help us to increase our visitor numbers and become better known.

Role description

Visitor Services is a department that covers a number of different areas and as such the role of the Visitor Services Volunteer will be diverse. In a typical day you could be welcoming visitors at the front door, assisting on-board Concorde, helping in the gift shop or walking the galleries imparting your knowledge to those that have a thirst for more information. You will work side-by-side with the Visitor Services Hosts and become the face of the museum, so we are looking for volunteers who are passionate and positive about Aerospace Bristol and keeping the history of Bristol’s aviation story alive. It’s important to say that a knowledge of aircraft or aviation is not essential to be a Visitor Services Volunteer. We will support you in developing your skills and knowledge to help you best enhance the experience of all of our visitors. So if you enjoy a fast paced environment and love to make people feel welcomed and valued then apply to volunteer with us today.

Tasks will include but not be restricted to:

  • Interaction with visitors, sharing your experiences with others

  • Providing additional support with other initiatives that encourage engagement with visitors and the sale of Museum guidebooks and donations to the Museum

  • Promoting Host led tours to visitors

  • Using ‘prop boxes’ to engage with visitors in the galleries

  • Assisting the Museum Team with object handling sessions, activities and events

role purpose

The purpose of this role is to support the Museum to achieve its strategic objectives, namely to:

  • Enable people to participate in and learn about Bristol’s aviation history

  •  Advance learning, skills and training

  • Conserve Bristol's aerospace heritage through engagement

  • Celebrate Bristol’s aerospace achievements and inspire a new generation

Volunteers will be working with the Visitor Services Team supporting our Hosts in engaging visitors, sharing their experiences of Aerospace Bristol and promoting museum products and activities.
