volunteering Frequency asked questions

Volunteering can be an extremely rewarding experience, but many of you have questions regarding how you can get involved, what it entails or whether you're adequately qualified. We've tried to answer as many of these questions as we can in our FAQs below.

Volunteering opportunities at Aerospace Bristol

Q: How old do I have to be to volunteer?

A: The minimum age for our volunteer roles is 16.

Q: Do you have any vacancies at the moment?

A: Please see visit our Volunteers section for all our current volunteer opportunities.

Q: Do I need qualifications to become a volunteer?

A: No.  For most of our volunteer roles you don’t need any specific skills, but relevant experience and qualifications are a bonus.  The most important skills required are a passion and enthusiasm for aviation and ability to engage, encourage and inspire our visitors, to help us create an unforgettable experience.

Q: Will I be offered any training?

A: Full training will be provided on how to carry out your volunteer role.  You will receive a thorough induction to your role so that you are confident in what we are asking you to do.

Q: If I volunteer will this lead to a job at the Museum?

A: Whilst volunteering does not guarantee employment opportunities at Aerospace Bristol, by becoming a volunteer, you can learn new skills and develop existing ones, while gaining valuable work experience. Volunteering is also a fun way to make friends, meet people and can help to build your confidence.  You can view all our current vacancies by visiting our Opportunities page.

Q: How long do I need to volunteer for?

A: For volunteers working in visitor experience roles within the museum it would be most helpful to us if you could commit to one day a week or more, and this could be made up of two half day sessions. For other roles the commitment may vary, however this will be outlined within the volunteer role profile.

Q: Will I get my expenses reimbursed?

A: The Trust is unable to offer volunteer expenses as standard, however any pre-agreed expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with the organisation’s expenses policy. The Trust values each and every one of those who give their time to volunteer with us.

Q: I am currently unable to commit to volunteering but I will be available to volunteer in the future, when should I apply?

A: Please only apply for volunteer roles up to one month before you are available to volunteer.
