4,000 young people to benefit from new GCSE Boost event at Aerospace Bristol

The event will promote wellbeing, good mental health, and encourage high aspirations in young people

Thousands of Year 11 students from Bristol and its surrounding areas will soon have the opportunity to meet employers and engage with talks on mental health and wellbeing, diet and nutrition, motivation and aspiration, and GCSE exam techniques.

The two-day GCSE Boost live event and careers fair is set to take place at the Aerospace Bristol museum on 13th and 14th March 2025.

The aim of the event is to help students feel more confident and well prepared as they go into exam season, and to connect them with local employers from a variety of industries.

Four professional speakers will deliver engaging talks and practical advice in an inspiring setting alongside the last Concorde ever to fly.

Junior Saunders, founder of GCSE Boost said:

“GCSEs often bring up a lot of self-doubt even for the most academic students. GCSE Boost aims to provide Year 11 students with advice and guidance on self-management through exams.

Our mini careers fair will also highlight how supportive and approachable employers are for students preparing for exam season.”

Junior spent most of his life in foster care and almost went to a young offenders unit at age 14. While in Marlowe Children’s Home in Gloucester, he chose to return to his foster mother, go back to mainstream education, and finish his GCSEs. He attributes this decision to wanting a sense of belonging and the need for a sense of achievement, despite all the setbacks he had faced.

The support that Junior received from his foster mother, probation officer and mentors, and the Head Teacher of Lockleaze School inspired him to create GCSE Boost.

Sally Cordwell, CEO of Aerospace Bristol said:

“We're thrilled to be hosting GCSE Boost at Aerospace Bristol this year. This important initiative aligns perfectly with our commitment to fostering learning and inspiring younger generations. Events like these empower students with the knowledge, confidence, and motivation they need to succeed.”

GCSE Boost is inviting local and national employers to partner with the event. By becoming a "Business Booster," organisations can pledge £1,000 to help facilitate the event or sponsor a stand, directly engaging with students and showcasing opportunities for 2025 recruitment.
