Volunteers Power Bristol's Aviation Legacy with Over 11,000 Hours of Service
Aerospace Bristol is marking International Volunteers' Day by celebrating the dedication of its volunteer team, who contributed an impressive 11,652 hours in 2023/24 to help preserve and share Bristol's aviation heritage.
The museum is supported by a diverse network of volunteers, including many with backgrounds in the aerospace industry. Soon, 25 new volunteers will join the team, helping to further enhance the visitor experience.
Maggie Aherne, Aerospace Bristol Volunteer said: “Wednesdays are a highlight of the week for me. It is such a privilege to work, not only with Concorde, but with the legacy of what Sir George White contributed to this city.”
Throughout the year, Aerospace Bristol’s volunteers went above and beyond to support visitor experiences, special events, the workshop, and the archive. They even took talks off-site, raising awareness of the museum and its collection in the wider community.
Megan Christo, Volunteering and Community Manager at Aerospace Bristol said: "When you visit the museum you'll meet passionate people eager to share fascinating stories about our aircraft and collection. They’ve contributed so much of their time this year, and it’s all because they love keeping Bristol’s aviation history alive for future generations.”
From welcoming visitors and conducting tours to maintaining exhibits and supporting educational programmes, volunteers play a crucial role in the museum's daily operations. Their collective expertise and passion help bring Bristol's aerospace story to life for thousands of visitors each year.
