Flightline Kitchen + Bar: Aerospace Bristol reveals plans for a revamped café at Filton
The museum café is set to be transformed into a vibrant new food and drink destination open to all
Work has started on a new and improved café at Aerospace Bristol. Flightline Kitchen + Bar will be open to everyone, not just visitors to the museum, and will serve as a social space for the local community and the growing Brabazon neighbourhood.
The café will offer hot and cold drinks, freshly baked sweet treats, snacks, sandwiches and a variety of meals, including breakfast burritos, burgers, salads and flatbreads. Menus will change throughout the year, using local ingredients from suppliers such as Clifton Coffee, Severn & Wye Smokery, Cotswold Distillery, Hobbs House Bakery, and Bath Soft Cheese Company.
Situated inside one of the museum’s grade-II listed aircraft hangars, the redesigned space will draw inspiration from Bristol’s aerospace heritage.
Flightline was the name of the factory canteen that served workers at Filton, as they built iconic aircraft like the Bristol Britannia in the 1950s and Concorde in the 1960s and 1970s.
Located near the Bristol Aircraft Assembly Hall, known as the Brabazon Hangar, the canteen later became a hub for Airbus employees working on A320 wings.
A flight line is an area of an airfield where aircraft are parked and serviced.
Adam Jones, Head of Marketing and Commercial Operations, Aerospace Bristol, said: “With the new Brabazon neighbourhood developing around Aerospace Bristol, Flightline Kitchen + Bar will not only enhance the experience for museum visitors, it will a social space for the whole community, an ideal space for meetings and events , and a must-visit destination for foodies across Bristol. We can’t wait to welcome our first guests this Easter!”
Chris Walter, Operations Director, Fosters Events, said: “As Aerospace Bristol’s catering partner, Fosters Events are proud to deliver the new Flightline Kitchen + Bar alongside our first-class events under the wings of Concorde. We’re committed to providing the highest quality, locally-sourced seasonal food and drink and we have exciting plans to make the new café into a much-loved destination for local residents and museum visitors alike.”
Construction on the new café is already underway ahead of the opening in April, with museum visitors able to enjoy the temporary Café under Concorde while works are completed.
The café launch is one of many developments at Aerospace Bristol this year, with more announcements coming soon.
