Spirit of ’45: Aerospace Bristol celebrates 80 years since VE Day

This May Bank Holiday weekend, Aerospace Bristol invites visitors to step back to 1945 and soak up the street party atmosphere in celebration of the 80th anniversary of VE Day. The museum is hosting a weekend packed with fun, fascinating history, and lively activities for all ages.

On Sunday & Monday

  • Be among the first to enter a real WWII air raid shelter in the new Filton Blitz Experience.

  • See the WWII Bolingbroke bomber restored by volunteers and rolled out of the Conservation Workshop for the first time.

  • Discover remarkable stories from our historic site with expert talks

  • Take a seat outside in a street party setting and enjoy a delicious cream tea on Sunday or Monday or join us for the Bank Holiday Monday barbecue.

  • Keep the kids entertained with 1940s-themed games and activities.

On Sunday 4th May

  • Hear Filton Concert Brass perform 1940s classics from 10.30am to 1.30pm

On Monday 5th May

  • Take part in a fun and energetic Lindy Hop dance class. No experience needed!

  • Say hello to Winston Churchill as he roams the museum and delivers rousing speeches

  • Dress to impress in your best 1940s attire, with prizes for the best outfits!

  • Enjoy children’s face painting.
