#OnThisDay in 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope was launched. 🔭

Since its launch, the Hubble Space Telescope has provided powerful observations of our universe from its optimal position in low-Earth orbit, above the atmosphere, giving it an unobstructed view of the cosmos.

Filton played a significant role in the Hubble telescope mission, as British Aerospace (BAe) was the prime contractor for the Photon Detector Assembly (the heart of the Faint Object Camera).

Before its removal in 2002, the Faint Object Camera (FOC) provided many remarkable Hubble images, including the first-ever direct image of a star. British Aerospace also developed another cutting-edge project, the telescope’s first and second sets of 25-foot-long solar arrays.

On the 35th anniversary of its launch, we reflect on how Hubble has transformed our knowledge of the cosmos. Here's to Hubble! 🥳
