From deep space to vintage vehicles:

March is jam-packed with upcoming special events

Aerospace Bristol, which welcomed a record number of 100,000 visitors last year, has launched its March programme with a variety of events and activities for families and enthusiasts alike.

The inaugural Wales & West Spacefest lands on Saturday 7 March with a jam-packed day of space fun including free, expert-led science talks, hands-on activities for kids, and interactive displays beneath the wings of the iconic Concorde. Morning sessions focus on Bristol’s role in space exploration, highlighting local connections to the Hubble Telescope mission and more, while afternoon talks feature planet discovery, how AI can inform space missions, and the Ariel Space Telescope and Exoplanets. Pop-up planetarium shows and 3D virtual reality space experiences can be booked for an additional price.

On Saturday 14 March, the museum trades rocket engines for rolling tracks for Model Railway Day – a chance for enthusiasts of all ages to get up close to over 80 modelling layouts of trains, planes, cars, buses and doll’s houses and even take a ride on a fun-sized model railway.

Next, an impressive collection of vintage cars will be on display between the historic hangars on Bristol Owner’s Heritage Trust Lecture Day on Saturday 28 March, with talks about the group’s recently acquired archive, lunch and refreshments included with a ticket.

Rounding off the month on Sunday 29 March, Vintage Bus Day brings a collection of Bristol buses to the Filton site. Visitors can learn more about the city’s transport heritage, as well as step aboard a vintage bus for a free trip around the local area.

Sally Cordwell, CEO of Aerospace Bristol, said: “Whether you’re into astronomy, model trains or vintage vehicles, there’s something for everyone at Aerospace Bristol this March.

“Following record visitor numbers last year, our programme expands with a variety of family-friendly events and specialist exhibitions, showcasing Bristol’s legacy of innovation across space exploration, engineering and transport.

“Alongside these special events, visitors of all ages can experience 100 years of aerospace history and board the world’s first supersonic airliner.”

Annual ticket holders can attend special event days for free with a valid annual ticket. Additional activities may require tickets or booking in advance.
