The Royal Aeronautical Society Bristol Branch and Aerospace Bristol invite you to this after-hours lecture, From Concorde to Boom Supersonic: The history and future of supersonic air transport by Prof. Richard Parker.

Concorde, in service from 1976 to 2003, was the only supersonic passenger aircraft, offering a unique flying experience but constrained by regulations on sonic booms. Following a tragic crash in 2000, operations were suspended, and ultimately, Concorde was retired.

Efforts to create new supersonic aircraft have continued, with Boom Supersonic’s Overture emerging as a credible successor, having secured 130 airline orders. The XB-1 demonstrator recently achieved Mach 1.18 with no perceptible boom, raising hopes for commercial supersonic flights in the next decade.

The speaker, Prof. Richard Parker is an advisor to Boom and will relate the fascinating story of the aircraft and engine development to date.

Refreshment served from 18:00 and the lecture will start at 18:30.
