Chocs Away!: The curious case of a corned beef sandwich in Space

NASA’s Project Gemini was designed to learn how to send astronauts to the Moon. Astronaut John Young was selected as the pilot of Gemini 3, under the command of Gus Grissom. Young would later go on to become the 9th person to walk on the Moon as the commander of the Apollo 16 mission.

However, during his time on Gemini 3, he became involved in a brief scandal after smuggling a corned beef sandwich into space in 1965. When his crewmate took a bite, rye bread crumbs floated everywhere, potentially threatening spacecraft equipment.
