Aerospace Bristol's Conservation Workshop welcomes the wings of rare Bristol Frieghter
In another significant breakthrough in the Bristol Freighter’s restoration at Aerospace Bristol, the museum’s exceptional Conservation volunteers have moved the central wings of the Type 170 aircraft into the Conservation Workshop.
This week, with the combined efforts of Aerospace Bristol’s Conservation volunteers and Operations team, the central wings and engine structures of the Bristol Freighter were relocated from the museum’s Hangar 16R to the Conservation workshop.
Built by the Bristol Aeroplane Company, the Type 170 was brought home from New Zealand in 2018. In March, 2023, the aircraft was positioned within the Conservation Workshop to allow its doors to open, enabling visitors to access its interior.
Now, visitors can marvel at the innovatively designed Freighter with its impressive 108ft. wingspan, learn about its history both as a freighter and a passenger airliner and step aboard the aircraft that once transported cargo – including vehicles, large animals- through its distinctive nose-loading doors.
